Ingredients
- Oil for deep frying
- 1¼ cups besan (gram flour)
- ¼ cup white rice flour
- 1 tsp curry powder
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp coriander powder
- ¼ tsp baking powder
- 1 cup water
- 1 lb button or crimini mushrooms
Instructions

Heat the Oil
Heat oil in a pot or deep fryer to about 350°F (175°C). Use about 2–3 inches of oil for deep frying. -
Prepare the Batter
In a large bowl combine besan, rice flour, curry powder, cumin seeds, salt, coriander powder, and baking powder. Mix well to create a thick batter and let it rest for about 5 minutes. -
Coat the Mushrooms
Dip each mushroom into the batter so it is evenly coated. Allow excess batter to drip off. -
Fry the Pakoras
Carefully place the coated mushrooms into the hot oil and fry them for a few minutes on each side until they turn golden brown and crispy. -
Drain the Oil
Remove the pakoras using a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to absorb excess oil. -
Serve
Serve the mushroom pakoras hot with cilantro-mint chutney for the best flavor.
